SAPPSS History

In the summer of 1987, these five founding members; Reny de Jong, Betty Flock, Marg Marr, Bonnie Edworthy and Norma O'Hare, met to form the Southern Alberta Post Polio Support Society.

The first public meeting took place on February 1, 1988 at the Rehabilitation Society. There were 68 Polio Survivors in attendance. CBC news did a five minute broadcast and The Calgary Herald did a half page story that brought 168 phone calls in one week. SAPPSS was incorporated under the Society's act in June of 1988.
